WHAT IS RECOVERY
And How We Can Support It
At Creo Being, we have a definition of Recovery that hopefully reaches the ones most impacted, in need of help and ready to make a change.
For Recovery to begin, whether it’s one day at a time or a lifetime, something (anything) would need to be identified, acknowledged, processed internally and accepted. This can be a loss, often rooted in or shaped by generational trauma, manifested as:
-
Substance addiction
-
Alcoholism
-
Process addictions such as:
-
Work
-
Relationships
-
Sex
-
Food
-
Porn
-
Social media
-
Shopping
-
Personal development
-
Self improvement
-
Physical fitness
-
Spirituality
-
Wellness
-
Other forms of losses through this can be a lack of:
-
Ambition
-
Purpose
-
Direction
-
Goals
-
Beliefs
-
Sense of belonging
-
Wellbeing
If it’s not loss, the need to change can also show up as:
-
Discomfort
-
Pain
-
Awareness
-
Exhaustion
-
Consequences
-
Disconnection
-
Desire
-
Longing
-
Aspiration
This is not a commentary or diagnosis of some sorts but merely an observation of what happens in the MENA region if not UAE specifically. Creo Being works with the ones affected including family members, friends, loved ones and professionals from organizations and institutions in the workplace and education sector. We are proud partners of RCA Wellbeing that bridges the gaps as a result of such losses no matter how big or small they seem to the individual, families and communities.
Creo Being operates with utmost confidentiality, privacy and anonymity when it comes to Recovery Coaching based on the individual’s preferences and needs. Through Recovery Coaches you get:
-
A motivator and cheerleader
-
Ally and confidante
-
Truth teller
-
Role model and mentor
-
Problem solver
-
Resource broker
-
Advocate
-
Community organizer
-
Lifestyle consultant
-
Friend and companion
Some Recovery Coaches are great at one of these associated roles or they adapt well to all if not most of them given the circumstances of the individuals or organizations. So what do we mean when we say Recovery? We are a fan of SAMHSA (The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration)’s “working definition” of Recovery, which is:
“A process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.”
Notice the phrase “process of change” in the definition, in contrast to:
-
Process of addiction
-
Process of generational trauma
-
Process of loss
This process can leave us stuck in loops for decades if not days or weeks. So rather than staying in the loop we make a change which is where we Recover from such loss, pain or discomfort. What does that look like? Recovery can also look like:
-
Truth
-
Healing
-
Growth
-
Balance
-
Finding purpose and meaning
-
Love
-
Laughter
-
Unwavering faith
-
Trust
-
Hope
-
Light
-
Abundance
-
Career
-
Creativity
-
Entrepreneurship
-
Art
-
Business
-
Family
-
Community
-
Inspiring others
-
Making a difference by making a change
The journey doesn’t end there. For some individuals it continues for a lifetime, while others need it for a certain period. Creo Being facilitates any change you’re looking to embark on through Recovery Coaching.
On that note, we align with CCAR (Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery)'s definition of recovery – "you are in recovery if you say you are". At Creo Being, we have come to realize that:
RECOVERY IS NOT JUST...
Detoxing
Getting sober
Staying clean
Being dry
Quitting behaviors
Going through treatment
RECOVERY IS ALSO...
Living life
Having fun
Experiencing joy
Achieving goals
Growing with grace
Helping others
